I do not know of a single whitening system that uses a Laser to whiten teeth.
Most of the ‘Light activated’ systems use a blue plasma light, which even the reps admit “ARE FOR MARKETING PURPOSES ONLY”. But it looks good doesn’t it? Read the dental press – we all know, I’ve even bought these lights myself because I’m gullible too.
Two systems use ultraviolet light but with the occasional sunburn – oops – when 100% total gum and mouth blockout is not used. http://erikjheels.com/?p=1029 This should not happen but why take the risk?
So what’s the alternative to ‘Laser’ whitening? Simple, a chemically activated peroxide that doesn’t rely on any light source. This is generally referred to in the profession as power whitening. Or use custom made trays with whitening gel in them.
